FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

WHY IS FLUID INSIDE TECHNOLOGY RELIABLE?

Fluid’s low viscosity liquid properties mimic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to allow our system to reliably engage rotational forces instantaneously on any impact regardless of the unique combination of impact variables - in other words there is no delay in activating the Fluid slip plane properties that are critical to absorbing rotational forces.  


THE PODS LOOK SO THIN, DO THEY REALLY HELP WITH SAFETY?

Yes - the pods are only 3-4mm thick. The pod properties provide independent and simultaneous protection against linear and rotational forces.


I DIDN’T REALIZE THE FOAM PAD TAKES UP MOST OF THE SPACE IN THE POD. HOW MUCH FLUID IS THERE?

The foam is saturated with just enough low shear fluid (inert oil) to allow the foam to float freely inside the pod.


MY HELMET WITH FLUID FITS A TOUCH SNUGGER BUT ALSO MORE COMFORTABLY THAN NON-FLUID - EXPLAIN THIS? 

It should be a bit snugger because of the pod matrix but because each pod is compliant, it will take the shape of your head and improve overall comfort, especially on impact.


WHAT DOES THE DATA ON THE PERFORMANCE GRAPHS REALLY MEAN?

Linear acceleration/deceleration is measured in G’s to describe the stopping forces to the head and brain on impact. Rotational acceleration/deceleration is measured in radians/sec2 to describe the spinning forces of the head and brain on impact. All impacts are a combination of both.


WILL COLD TEMPS EVER MAKE THESE PODS FALL OUT AND/OR CAN THEY BREAK OPEN?

No. With the specified adhesive, they will not fall out. We have made over 1 million pods to date for various applications including high intensity hockey helmets without a single failure. If a pod should ever break, this is a good indication that the helmet has received a very severe impact and should be inspected.


IS THERE ANYTHING HAZARDOUS INSIDE THE POD IF IT DOES BREAK OPEN?

No. The pod membrane is TPU (thermoplastic urethane) and the fluid is an inert organic oil. All of these materials, including the foam, are commonly used in high intensity industrial applications.
